Open Letter from Pastor Harvey Carey regarding the Re:vision Campaign:
“I am honored to lead what I believe to be one of the most powerful Churches on the planet. God gets all of the glory for what He has used Citadel to do in transforming the Metro Detroit area. In just under seven years, we have built an authentically multicultural congregation where hundreds gather on a weekly basis to worship God, provide food to the poor, close down drug houses, minister to youth, confront injustice and bring hundreds upon hundreds of people to Christ.
Citadel we now approach that seventh year in ministry, we continue to grow during one of the most challenging times facing our world. A global recession, rising unemployment rates and home foreclosures have made ministry even more difficult in a city that already has a reputation for being a place that runs low on hope. The impact that ministry in an environment like ours can have on the mind and the heart is unexplainable. The harsh realities of living in this city and in the world as we now know it can make it very difficult to have hope that things can really change. Both personally and corporately, this has been the hardest time many of us have seen in years, and sometimes, the discouragement of life can sometimes make seeing the point of it all very difficult. As a leader who is committed to seeing God transform this region, I refuse to allow these challenges to stop us. The solution is very simple: its time to refresh ourselves again with the hope that called us here.
It’s time to believe again in the vision that led all of us—from different backgrounds, ideologies, and places in the world—right here to the heart of Detroit. We need to take a serious pause from the harshness of life to see afresh and anew the vision that continues to unite us, and make changes that are necessary to insure that we are in the best position possible as a church to pursue that vision. I am therefore proud to announce our Re:vision Capital Campaign. The purpose of the Re:vision campaign is to help our members, partners and friends see the vision of Citadel more clearly, and then secure the resources necessary for our church to take advantage of opportunities to pursue that vision.
The campaign has three main goals.
1) Renew the spiritual life of the Congregation. Intentional focus on spiritual formation, preparing our congregation for prayer and the spiritual development of leaders. 2) Reconnect the members of our church to the mission and the ministry of the church. We will connect the members of the church to each other (build stronger relationships within the Church), help connect the members to the mission (every member serving in their giftedness and calling) and implement systems that will help us manage member data more effectively. 3) Respond to the physical challenges facing our church. This campaign will help us gather together the resources necessary to purchase a new Church building, which will allow us to provide safe space for worship, children’s ministry and discipleship.
In order to achieve the first phase of our campaign, we are counting on our members, partners and friends to help us achieve a fundraising goal of $359,000 over the next 6 months. You can contribute to the Re:vision Campaign clicking on the link below and making your financial contribution:
